City Efforts to Relieve Homelessness

Homelessness is a big problem that the Salem City Council wants to solve. The city is working with many partners to help people who don’t have homes. By working together, they are doing a lot to make more affordable places for people to live.

Why This is Important

Homelessness affects everyone in our community. It’s hard for kids and families without a home to feel safe or succeed in school. The city wants to make sure everyone has a place to live, a chance to find jobs, and access to services. This work helps the whole community stay safe and strong.

Goals

Setting goals with our partners to:

  • Reduce sheltering in unsuitable locations.
  • Reduce the time people spend being homeless.
  • Reduce how many people are homeless in Salem.
  • Help more adults get jobs.
  • Increase the number of people who find shelter.
  • Make it easier for people to afford housing with things like rental assistance, affordable housing, and access to services.
