Current Events

In early 2026, the design team sought public input on this project through an Open House and online survey. We promoted these opportunities by reaching out to neighborhood associations and Northeast Salem community groups; distributing flyers door-to-door along the street; mailing information to residents and property owners in the project area; and posting announcements on the project website and social media. Through these forums, we heard from residents along Fisher Road NE and from people who travel through this corridor.

At the Open House on Feb. 11, 2026, several property owners within the project area expressed concern about the potential loss of property due to the proposed improvements. Other attendees were happy to see pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements via new sidewalks and bike lanes.

The online survey, which was open to everyone in January and February, provided another avenue for people to weigh in on the project. The survey asked respondents to rank four design features. From the 80 responses received, the top-ranked feature was protected bike lanes (i.e., buffer from cars). Using the least amount of additional land from adjacent properties and installing planter areas ranked equally, while providing on-street parking ranked last.

We appreciate everyone who took the time to share their thoughts with us. The design team will take this feedback into consideration as we develop a conceptual design for the Fisher Road NE project. We plan to provide future public outreach to share design for this project.

The Safety and Livability Bond was passed by Salem voters in November 2022 and included funds for street improvements to Fisher Road NE, from Silverton Road NE to approximately 850 feet south of Sunnyview Road NE.
