2019 Salem Reads Book Title Announced

November 16, 2018

Good Morning, Midnight, a novel by Lily Brooks-Dalton will be the third annual Salem Reads book. The Salem Public Library Foundation, which sponsors the annual community-wide reading program, encourages all community members to read the book and get ready to participate in discussions and events throughout February 2019.

100 Homeless Housed: Salem Rental Assistance Program

November 5, 2018

Salem’s Homeless Rental Assistance Program reached its goal to house 100 ‘hardest to house” chronically homeless individuals. With a goal to house 100 in its first year, the Homeless Rental Assistance Program is the largest “Housing First” first-year initiative in Oregon.

Salem Receives $3 Million in Incentives

November 2, 2018

Salem is pleased to announce the receipt of more than $3 million in renewable energy incentives from Energy Trust of Oregon and $3 million in grant funds awarded by Portland General Electric’s Renewable Development Fund to upgrade the Willow Lake Cogeneration Facility at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. This plant produces renewable energy from the byproducts (biogas) of wastewater treatment. This upgrade is expected to save the City of Salem $300,000 each year, and keep 5,000 metric tons of pollution causing gases from being released into our atmosphere

Third Annual Mushroom Show Coming to Salem Public Library

November 2, 2018

The 3rd Annual Mushroom Show provides a golden opportunity to learn about the fascinating world of mushrooms and fungi on Saturday, November 10, from noon to 5 p.m. The free show, presented by the Willamette Valley Mushroom Society, is held at the Salem Public Library, 585 Liberty Street SE. Attendees will have the chance to ask questions, find answers, and chat about fungi with people who know and love them, and attend special presentations and workshops about mushrooms.
