Salem Welcomes Athletes for IRONMAN 70.3 Oregon

July 19, 2021

IRONMAN 70.3 Oregon will take place on Sunday, July 25, 2021, beginning at 6 a.m. in Riverfront Park. The areas surrounding the more than 70-mile race course will remain open to the public but significant crowds and limited parking should be expected. Several road closures are planned around Minto-Brown Island Park, Riverfront Park, and River Rd. S. Signs are posted in these areas warning drivers of the traffic impacts that may occur throughout the day.

Willamette Slough Habitat Restoration Continues

The aquatic invasive plant, Ludwigia hexapetala, is choking the Willamette Slough, limiting recreation opportunities and wildlife habitat. The City and Willamette Riverkeeper are working together to improve this vital habitat and recreation area.

Pringle Hall Community Center Is Now Available For Reservation

July 15, 2021

The City of Salem’s only reservable indoor venue, Pringle Hall Community Center, will be available for reservation by the public beginning July 19th, 2021. Reservations can be made up to a year in advance by filling out a Facility Use Permit and Agreement with the Public Works Department.

Salem Earns 2021 Public Works Project of the Year Award

July 8, 2021

The City of Salem’s Public Works Department has earned The American Public Works Association’s (APWA) 2021 Public Works Project of the Year Award for their efforts in restoring Pringle Creek in downtown Salem. For decades, Pringle Creek had been shaded by the concrete remnants of the old Boise Cascade paper mill. The project focused on rehabilitating the stream bed flowing under a section of downtown Salem by removing concrete pylons, enhancing the green space along the water, and restoring the beauty of the creek.

Salem Public Library at Broadway Reopens July 6th

July 2, 2021

Salem Public Library is pleased to announce the temporary SPL at Broadway location, 1400 Broadway St. NE, will reopen for browsing and other limited services from Tuesday, July 6 to Tuesday, August 17. Services will include browsing, holds pickup, limited public computer use and printing, WiFi access, and library cards.
