Library services to expand due to status change for Marion, Polk counties

February 26, 2021

Access and services at the Salem Public Library will increase beginning March 8 in response to recent news that Marion and Polk counties have moved to the state’s “High Risk” category. Additional appointments and hours will be available for limited, contactless Curbside Service, Operation Bookshelf deliveries will resume, and monthly Take & Make Kits will return. In addition, the library’s array of Virtual Services is available 24/7.

Proposed Changes to Floodplain Overlay Zone Code

February 25, 2021

Ordinance 1-21 proposes to amend Salem Revised Code Chapter 601 regarding floodplain overlay zones as a major step toward reducing costs for Salem citizens with flood insurance policies. The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) Community Rating System (CRS) program offers local communities the opportunity to reduce its flood insurance premiums by implementing measures that exceed the minimum federal standards. These code amendments are needed to improve Salem’s CRS rating and reduce flood insurance costs.

Web Design with HTML Workshop for Teens4:00 p.m.6:00 p.m.Digital Meeting

Middle and high school students are invited to build coding skills as they create a website using HTML. Planned and led by experienced coders from the library’s Teen Advisory Board, this three-part workshop will teach skills useful for school now and your professional life later. The sessions will teach how to express yourself by coding your own website and help you understand the websites you use on a daily basis at a higher level.
