Express Service Coming at Salem Public Library

Express Service at the Salem Public Library’s Main Library is tentatively set to open to the public on Friday, October 1. Salem residents can visit from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday for browsing, holds pickup, and limited public computer use. Curbside Service by appointment will continue to be available from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays and 1-3 p.m. Sundays. The outdoor book return at the Main Library is available 24/7.

Children’s Corner Dollhouse Returns

Parking Update at Renovated Main Library

Renovations at Salem Public Library extend beyond the library walls and include an update to how parking is handled for visitors to the building. Visitors now have three hours of free parking each day in the library lot at the Main Library. Additional time is .75 cents/hour from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Parking is free after 6 p.m. and all day Sundays. Traffic is now one-way through the parking garade, with entry only from Liberty Street and all visitors will need to enter their license plate number into the parking kiosk near the entrance.

Renovated Library Provides a Fresh Canvas for Public Art

August 27, 2021

Visitors to the renovated Salem Public Library will experience a light-filled interior with books, new spaces for reading and meeting, and redesigned areas for children and youth. They will also delight in a striking reinstallation of public art. More than 70 artworks, including some that were originally purchased for the Civic Center’s opening in 1972, have returned to the library in new locations as the two-year seismic upgrade has been completed.

Salem Public Library at Broadway Reopens July 6th

Salem Public Library is pleased to announce the temporary SPL at Broadway location, 1400 Broadway St. NE, will reopen for browsing and other limited services from Tuesday, July 6 to Tuesday, August 17. Services will include browsing, holds pickup, limited public computer use and printing, WiFi access, and library cards.

After tallying the many votes of readers in our community, we have a winner for the 2022 Salem Reads book: A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki. A Tale for the Time Being is available to read or listen to in preparation for Salem Reads in February 2022.
